The Problem:- I could not print to local printer (HP laserjet) and noted that there is no lpt1 port listed in devices. MB is asusp4s800,relatively new and has been working fine until today ...
Resolution:-
At first enter the BIOS and make sure that the parallel port -LPT1 is enabled in the BIOS .Save the settings and come out from the BIOS ;restart the machine and install the HP printer's driver,which is connected to the LPT1.

and on that page you can download a utility that will add it back in. The utility download link is http://www.avanquestusa.com/downloads/LPT1REG.exe Worked great for me.
