I don't have Zone A...Nothing has fixed my problem.

I don't have Zone Alarm.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

I specifically allowed *live.com as a safe site on pop-up blocker.

I just downloaded and ran ms-error fix (paid $17 for it).

I just found an OLD version of messenger and uninstalled that.

I've tried deleting my cookies, doing the "regsvr32 softpub.dll" et. al in "run."

None of these things worked. I'm on a company machine, so I don't want to mess with the Firewall settings. But this error happened suddenly 2 weeks ago, so I highly doubt it's a Firewall issue. Also, our IT dept. has "messenger" specifically set to "allow" in our Firewall settings.

I created a NEW e-mail address with a live.com alias instead of my current hotmail.com one. THAT new e-mail address works. messenger opens just fine.

BUT, no contacts. It keeps telling me that to import contacts, it needs to find your contacts in a .ctt file .ctt files do not exist on my machine. and importing my contacts from hotmail.com into live.com works for mail, but messenger wants you to re-invite all those people to your live.com thing, which is just not going to work.

HELP? Anyone? Any last resort of a fix here? This is driving me nuts!!Qatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10604152746821207648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8893369.post-42791189674935222762009-01-30T14:40:00.000+05:302009-01-30T14:40:00.000+05:30I tried 3 registry cleaners- i had regcure install...I tried 3 registry cleaners- i had regcure installed on my computer but it didn't do the job, i tried a free tool called ccleaner but that only made things worse, and then reluctantly i tried the ms-errors program which seems to have fixed my problem. for the last 3 days since i installed ms errors i did not get any annoying error messages. if the errors come back i will be very pissed off but if they don't then this software was definitely worth the investmentUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07550978056194019414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8893369.post-40842175335843006482008-12-26T05:36:00.000+05:302008-12-26T05:36:00.000+05:30Jhon great post!!!I used that Ms-errors and my lap...Jhon great post!!!
I used that Ms-errors and my laptop just as new.
10Q
http://ms-errors.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8893369.post-77446202610308693932008-12-23T01:52:00.000+05:302008-12-23T01:52:00.000+05:30Emyy i had the same problem.I tried download the n...Emyy i had the same problem.
I tried download the new version and it didn't work, so i tried the software that "live" suggest.
The Ms-errors and it solved me the problem.
You should uninstall the old version then scan and fix withMs-errorsand install the new version again.
goodLuckAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10589055896517098708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8893369.post-58351916879779661922008-12-22T13:30:00.000+05:302008-12-22T13:30:00.000+05:30whats the fastest and easiest way to get rid of th...whats the fastest and easiest way to get rid of this error.

i was on the second newest version of messenger- and everything stopped working, it wouldnt even open. so i downloaded the newest one... but it wont work, ive troubleshooted and everything is connected.. could it be it didnt download right or something ?Emily Welfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16288938886179294435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8893369.post-18261715433693626652008-12-19T16:33:00.000+05:302008-12-19T16:33:00.000+05:30I had this error too. I don't believe they would release this new msgr version knowing that millions of people could sooner or later run into problems just like we did...

So, I did some tests in my computers, searched for additional information that could allow me to get a better understanding on how the messenger works, and step by step tried to give some form to this misterious puzzle...

Suddendly, I came up with an idea. "What about if I disable Pop-Ups? hum, let me try it..."

NO WAY! Guess what? It did it! Yea, disable pop-ups! I couldn't believe it!

I hate pop-ups so I didn't tottaly allow them but instead I did the following:
1- Opened my default browser, Internet Explorer 7,
2- clicked on Tools
3- selected Pop-UP Blocker
4- clicked Pop-UP Blocker Settings
5- added *.live.com to my allowed websites list.
6- clicked on the Close button
7- closed all my browser windows and re-opened Internet Explorer 7.

And here we go, tried to login to my messenger and it worked!!!

Note that my windows firewall was already properly configured. It was configured by the installation itself allowing access to:
Windows Live Messenger 8.1 and Windows Live Messenger 8.1 phone (msnmsgr.exe and livecall.exe respectively). .

Hope my experience helps you.

All the best,
PE

PS: If you use other Pop-Up blcker(s) you may have to apply the same procedure to it or to all of them.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06226443728182645662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8893369.post-87047574202571632622006-12-06T08:15:00.000+05:302006-12-06T08:15:00.000+05:30The following is a suggestion given by Jonathan Ka...The following is a suggestion given by Jonathan Kay

Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger

[If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try restarting it and see if that helps the situation.
